A clean chain is the foundation of a long ride
You don't need to be a mechanic to care for your chain like a professional. OC1 Chain Cleaner is a cleaning product that removes everything slowing down your drivetrain in minutes – from dried grease and mud to fine sand and brake dust. Simply spray the chain, wait a moment and wipe. No scrubbing, no tedious preparation. The aerosol works at any angle, reaching even where a brush has no chance.
A regularly clean chain means more than just a more pleasant ride. It's real savings – a dirty chain acts like sandpaper, destroying sprockets, cassette and derailleurs. Studies show that a neglected drivetrain can shorten component life by up to half. A few minutes of cleaning after every muddy trip means several hundred saved on servicing annually.
Key product properties
OC1 Chain Cleaner was designed for maximum effectiveness with minimal effort. Used by professional teams like Factor Racing, but created so anyone can use it without stress.
- Instant degreasing – special formula penetrates deep into chain rollers, dissolving even the most dried-on layers of grease and dirt.
- 360° aerosol system – the nozzle allows spraying the chain at any angle, even when holding the can upside down.
- Safe for all seals – the formula contains no aggressive chlorinated solvents, so it won't damage O-ring, X-ring, Z-ring and other chain types.
- Leaves no residue – after wiping, the chain is clean and ready for fresh lubricant application, with no sticky remains.

Who is this chain cleaner for?
OC1 Chain Cleaner is a product for everyone who wants their two-wheeler to serve long and trouble-free — regardless of whether you ride recreationally or race on track. Weekend cyclists and motorcyclists will appreciate the simplicity: spray the chain, wipe and done, no scrubbing and no stress. Off-road enthusiasts — enduro, motocross, MTB — know that mud and sand are the drivetrain's biggest enemies, and regular cleaning after every trip saves the chain and sprockets. City commuters dealing with street dust, exhaust fumes and rain settling on the chain can extend drivetrain life with quick cleaning every few weeks.
Mechanics and workshops will appreciate the large aerosol capacity (500 ml) and high efficiency — approximately 15–20 washes — making it an economical choice for professionals. Competitors and enthusiasts can use the same cleaner that professional MXGP teams use, proven in extreme racing conditions. Even if you're just starting your motorcycle or bicycle adventure, this cleaner is so simple to use that you'll feel confident straight away.
When to use Chain Cleaner?
- After every ride in mud or sand – immediate cleaning removes sand from chain links and drivetrain.
- Before applying fresh lubricant – old, dirty grease with layers of dust doesn't protect the chain, it destroys it.
- When the chain starts grinding – this is a signal that dirt and deposits are hindering drivetrain operation.
- Before and after the season – thorough cleaning of winter deposits or before storage will keep equipment in ideal condition.
- When preparing the vehicle for sale – a spotlessly clean chain signals to buyers that the vehicle was well maintained.

Why is regular chain cleaning worthwhile?
A regularly cleaned and lubricated chain can last up to twice as long — that's savings of several hundred annually. A dirty chain generates resistance, crackling and unstable derailleur operation, while a clean chain runs quietly and precisely. Every percent of drivetrain resistance means lost energy, so a clean, well-lubricated chain means faster riding with the same effort. A regularly cleaned drivetrain also provides better efficiency and riding comfort, which translates to enjoyment from every trip.
Old grease with layers of dirt traps moisture that leads to rust — regular cleaning and applying fresh lubricant protects metal from corrosion. A neglected chain means not just replacing it, but often the cassette, sprockets, and sometimes even derailleurs. Regular maintenance means fewer workshop visits and significantly lower two-wheeler running costs.

1. Prepare your motorcycle or bicycle
Place the vehicle on a stand so the chain can rotate freely. If you don't have a stand, you can also turn the wheel by hand during cleaning. Ensure the vehicle is in neutral (motorcycle) or pedal backwards (bicycle).
2. Shake the can and spray the chain
Before use, shake the can thoroughly for a few seconds. Holding the aerosol approximately 15–20 cm from the chain, evenly spray its entire length. Remember that this cleaner works at any angle – you can freely spray the chain from below or from the side. Focus particularly on the chain rollers, where the most dirt accumulates.
3. Wait 2–3 minutes
Allow the product to work. During this time, the cleaning formula penetrates dried grease, mud and deposits, breaking them down from within. You can prepare a cloth or brush in the meantime, but often you won't need it – Chain Cleaner does the work for you.
4. Wipe the chain with a clean cloth
Using a clean, dry cloth (preferably microfibre), wipe the chain while rotating the wheel and removing dissolved dirt. For a very dirty chain, you can use a soft brush, but in most cases wiping alone is sufficient. If the chain was very dirty, repeat the process – spray again, wait and wipe.
5. Allow the chain to dry
Wait approximately 5 minutes for the chain to dry completely. Only on a dry chain can you apply fresh lubricant (e.g. OC1 Chain Lube) to ensure proper protection and smooth operation.
Important
Do not use on hot surfaces – always clean the chain when cold. Hot metal can accelerate product evaporation before it starts working.
Avoid contact with brakes – if you accidentally spray the brake disc or pads, immediately wipe them with a clean cloth and rinse with isopropyl alcohol. The cleaner degreases, which can reduce brake effectiveness.
Use in a well-ventilated area – although the formula contains no chlorinated solvents, it's always good to work outdoors or in a garage with open doors.
Storage temperature: 5–25°C – do not leave the can in sunlight or in a frozen garage. Extreme temperatures can affect aerosol performance.
Tip
Clean the chain before lubricating, not after – the most common mistake is applying new lubricant to a dirty chain. It's like painting over rust – the effect will be short-lived and deposits will continue destroying the drivetrain. Always cleaner first, then fresh lubricant.
Use cardboard as protection – if you're worried about the floor or area around the chain, place cardboard or old newspaper underneath. The cleaner works fast, but a few drops may fall during application.
Clean the chain every 100 km of riding in dry conditions or after every ride in mud – it's a simple way to make your drivetrain last for years. A few minutes is all it takes to gain significantly longer component life.
Is Chain Cleaner safe for O-ring, X-ring and Z-ring chains?
Yes, OC1 Chain Cleaner is completely safe for all chain types, including those with O-ring, X-ring and Z-ring seals. The formula contains no aggressive chlorinated solvents that could damage rubber seals. You can use it on both motorcycles and bicycles without worrying about drivetrain damage.
How often should I clean the chain with this cleaner?
Cleaning frequency depends on your riding conditions. If you ride off-road, in mud and sand, ideally clean the chain after every ride. In dry, road conditions, cleaning every 200–300 km or when you notice the chain becoming dirty and sticky is sufficient. General rule: better to clean frequently and quickly than rarely and intensively.
Do I need to use a brush when cleaning the chain?
No, in most cases a brush is not needed. OC1 Chain Cleaner breaks down dirt and grease effectively enough that you simply spray the chain, wait 2–3 minutes and wipe with a cloth. A brush may only be useful for a very dirty chain that hasn't been cleaned for many months. The advantage of not brushing is no risk of scratching drivetrain components.
Will the product last for many washes?
Yes, one 500 ml can is enough for approximately 15–20 thorough chain cleans, depending on the level of dirt and chain length. If you're only cleaning lightly soiled areas, it may last for more applications. This is a very efficient product that works well for both individual users and workshops.
Do I need to apply lubricant immediately after using chain cleaner?
Yes, after cleaning the chain you should always apply fresh lubricant. Chain cleaner removes old, dirty grease along with contaminants, leaving the chain clean but unprotected. Wait approximately 5 minutes until the chain is completely dry, then apply lubricant (e.g. OC1 Chain Lube) to ensure proper protection against wear and corrosion.
Can I use this cleaner on other motorcycle or bicycle parts?
OC1 Chain Cleaner is designed primarily for chain cleaning, but can also be used to degrease other metal drivetrain components such as sprockets, cassette or derailleurs. However, avoid using on brakes (discs and pads) as degreasing can reduce braking effectiveness. For general motorcycle or bicycle cleaning, dedicated products such as OC1 Bike Cleaner or Offroad Cleaner work better.
Can the product damage paint or plastic parts?
No, the OC1 Chain Cleaner formula is safe for paint, plastic, rubber and metal. However, as with any cleaning product, avoid deliberately spraying large paint or plastic surfaces. In case of accidental contact, wipe the area with a clean cloth. This cleaner is intended for targeted use on the chain and drivetrain.
Can I use Chain Cleaner in an enclosed space?
Although the cleaner contains no chlorinated solvents, we recommend using it in a well-ventilated area or outdoors. Open garage doors or working outside is the best solution. Avoid inhaling the aerosol and do not use near open flames or heat sources.
How should I store the product to maintain its effectiveness?
Store the can at 5–25°C, in a dry and dark place, away from heat sources and fire. Do not leave the can in sunlight (e.g. in a car in summer) or in a frozen garage in winter. Extreme temperatures can affect can pressure and product effectiveness.
Does this cleaner work on heavily corroded chains?
The cleaner removes dirt, old grease and deposits, but is not designed to remove rust. If the chain is already corroded, cleaning may improve its appearance and operation, but will not reverse rust damage. In case of heavy corrosion, it's better to replace the chain and immediately begin regular maintenance with cleaner and lubricant to prevent the problem returning.
Is Chain Cleaner the same product used by professional riders?
Yes, OC1 Chain Cleaner is exactly the same product available to professional racing teams, including MXGP participants. There is no "professional" and "amateur" version – everyone gets the same high quality. The formula proven in extreme racing conditions is available to every user.
What should I do if the chain is still dirty after the first clean?
If the chain was very neglected or you rode in extremely muddy conditions, one clean may not be enough. In this case, repeat the entire process – spray again, wait 2–3 minutes and wipe. You can also use a soft brush (e.g. an old toothbrush) to reach the most difficult spots between chain rollers.
